What we Believe

Totteridge Baptist Church is a member of the Baptist Union.  Baptists don't have a rigid hierarchy but, instead, we are a community of believers following God locally in the way that seems most fitting to us.  This means that each individual Baptist church will take on its own character as its congregation decides how best to serve their community.

As Christians we believe and trust in Jesus Christ, who leads us to God, and we follow his teachings.  Our "What is Christianity?" pages explain who we believe he is and how he is important to us.  His life is recorded in the Bible.  The bible book of Mark is the shortest account and a good place to start if you want to read for yourself.

For Baptists baptism is immersion in water as a sign of having been washed clean spiritually and made acceptable to God.  It is an important ceremony for our church as it takes place when we become old enough to decide in our own right that we will take on the responsibilities of our faith.  It is a public statement that we have made a decision to commit to and follow the teachings and leadership of Jesus for the rest of our lives.  At Totteridge we welcome anyone who wants to walk with God to come and join us.  We don't insist you have to be baptised by immersion to become a member of our church community.

Planning your Visit

Welcome

The following information is specifically for those new to us.  We hope it gives you an idea of the kind of people we are and what to expect from us when you visit.

Who are we?

We are a Baptist Church affiliated to the Baptist Union of Great Britain and we welcome anyone to come and worship with us and be part of our community.  You don't have to be a Baptist! More information on what we believe can be found on the About Us part of the site.

How to find us

Visit our Contact Us page for details.

Accessibility

Access to our site is up a steep concrete drive or up some shallow steps, and there is flat access to our main building from the car park.  There is a disabled toilet in this main building.  We don't have pews, so can easily move chairs to accommodate space for a mobility scooter or a wheelchair next to a carer.  Please let us know in advance if you need us to reserve space for disabled parking.
